We are a mum-and-daughter creative team who share a love of crafting and making handmade gifts. Our business grew from a hobby that became so much more than just crafting – it became a way for us to express ourselves, manage life’s challenges, and create something special to share with others.
The inspiration behind Ali and Gems Creations began with Ali and her beautiful fairy gardens. She started making them when she was around 15 years old as a way to help manage the pressures of school and exams. Ali is autistic and has always found school life challenging at times. Creating fairy gardens allowed her to escape into a peaceful, imaginative world where she could relax, be creative, and focus on something she truly enjoyed.
I am Gemma, Ali’s mum and the other half of Ali and Gems Creations. Creativity has always been an important part of my life too. Over the years, I have faced several health challenges. I was born with hip dysplasia, although it wasn’t diagnosed until my twenties, leading to several major hip surgeries. Even now, in my forties, my mobility is limited, but I do what I can and focus on the things that bring me joy.
More recently, I was diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), a condition that has had a significant impact on my daily life. With medication, support, and making small lifestyle changes, I am learning how to manage it as best I can.
For both of us, crafting is more than a hobby – it is therapy. It gives us a creative outlet, helps us cope with life’s challenges, and brings us a great sense of achievement. Being able to share our creations with others makes it even more meaningful.
Ali creates enchanting fairy gardens and neurodivergent-friendly fidgets designed to bring comfort and joy. I make keyrings, bag charms, decorative light-up jars with beautiful roses, and children’s craft kits. We also both enjoy creating a variety of diamond art pieces.
More recently, my mum has joined our creative team too. She has lived with chronic back pain for many years and recently underwent surgery. During her recovery, she discovered a love for diamond art and now creates beautiful tote bags and handmade cards.
We are proud to be launching our shop on the Mightie Makers website, a platform created to support makers and creators like us in sharing our handmade products with the world.
Thank you for visiting our shop and supporting our small family business. Every item is made with care, creativity, and a little piece of our story. We hope our creations bring as much happiness to you as they do to us.
